THE ART OF COMMUNICATION - A NURSES' GUIDE TO IMPLEMENTING BEST PRACTICE IN COMMUNICATION
By Debbie Fortnum, Mike Kelly, and Alison Larking
This practical Guide was developed as part of the EDTNA/ERCA’s educational objectives for 2017 focusing on improving and fostering best practices in communication with patients. The aim was to gain greater insight and understanding of the importance of effective communication.
Nurses are aware of the value and importance of clear and regular communication with patients, and the challenges that it may pose for successfully conveying a meaningful and straightforward message. Communication is without a doubt complex and is influenced by an extensive array of factors. Therefore, learning is the key that is required to deepen our awareness of what and how we communicate.
Bearing in mind that the area of communication is vast, this booklet is not intended to cover all the issues related to communication. The aim is to serve as a practical Guide for nurses and it is being translated into Croatian, Russian and Spanish.
